BREAKING NEWS: 100-Mile Long Oil Slick Spotted Off Louisiana Coast

A large oil slick – 12-miles wide by 100-miles long – was spotted yesterday off Grand Isle, Louisiana, by pilot Bonny Schumaker, who heads up the California-based environmental nonprofit “On Wings of Care.” Ms. Schumaker confirmed that the slick is rapidly expanding, and reports that she will be returning to the site as soon as possible to further investigate the situation. New Orleans photographer Jerry Moran, who was flying with Schumaker, filed aerial photos.

Er drijft opnieuw een grote olievlek in de golf van Mexico, niet ver van de plaats waar het BP-platvorm Deepwater Horizon vorige zomer maandenlang olie lekte.
De vlek is 150 kilometer lang en ontdekt door een helikopterpiloot.
De Amerikaanse kustwacht is nog bezig te onderzoeken wat de herkomst en ernst van de lekkage is, maar de eerste berichten zijn, volgens de HuffPo niet geruststellend.
Er zijn ook eerste berichten dat er olie aanspoelt aan de kust.
Volgens de Wall Street Journal laat de situatie zich ernstig aanzien.
